Ahab Mudered And Took Possession
I Kings 21:17, 19-20 NKJV
[17] Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,...[19] You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Have you murdered and also taken possession?” ’ And you shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood, even yours.” ” [20] So Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” And he answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord.
In this matter, Ahab was King, husband and the beneficiary of the crimes committed by Jezebel. He couldn't feign ignorance especially, not to the old Elijah. The attempts by some scholars to make Ahab a near kinsman of Naboth has no proofs. Guzik says, "Elijah did what few other men had the courage to do – confront this wicked, brutal, and amoral king and queen of Israel. He pointedly charged them with the two crimes of both murder and theft of Naboth’s land". The Expositor's Commentary is very scathing in its report of this confrontation, " The advantage of his crime was snatched from him at the instant of fruition. Half in anger, half in anguish, he cried, "Hast thou found me, O mine enemy?"
Its a terrible feeling when your sins find you out( Num.32:23 ). The Lord saw through the intrigues and brought out the old prophet. Ahab must have felt like a masquerade undressed in the market place. That language must be very unique to Africa. Its like being caught as a thief in broad daylight.
Don't try ro cover your sins (Prov.28:13). If covering sin was sufficient, Christ would not have come to die. What Ahab needed was repentance. The words spoken by the prophet that day fulfilled in his son. It wasn't worth the garden or the murder. Most people do not think of the consequences when they feel the rush of adrenaline. Remember, your sins will find you out. Good morning.
