The Word Of the Lord For Today
I Kings 22:5-7 NKJV
[5] Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.” [6] Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?” So they said, “Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.” [7] And Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?”
These were two leaders. One had a tradition of asking God for divine directions, the other acts by what and how he feels. Where do you belong? Greg Hauser of Independent Baptist Church explains why the word of God is important in our daily decisions in life . " It guides us through our daily lives. It informs us on the decisions we make. It directs us in how we should conduct our lives as Christians. It even shows us how to speak to and care for others. It is an integral and important part of who we are". Im sure Jehoshaphat didn't read that. It was part of the serious Jewish lifestyle to include divine directions in their daily grind so that Jehovah will make their day victorious. What about you?
David Guzik makes a very poignant suggestion about this matter. "Considering the generally adversarial relationship between Ahab and the prophets of Yahweh, this was a bold request for Jehoshaphat to ask of Ahab. It wasn’t surprising that Ahab picked prophets who would tell them what they wanted to hear". The stage is set for whose word you prefer to hear everyday.
There's a word for you everyday. Its real excitement for me to hear God's word on a daily basis. Jesus said we couldn't survive without Gods word: Mat.4:4. The Palmist says he could meditate on the word of God all day long( Psa.119:97). That's why he could speak the Psalms. What do you meditate on? When the word finally came, over four hundred false prophets spoke lies. It took one bold prophet to tell them the truth despite manipulations. God, give us men. Go for the word today. There's a divine direction for you there. Good morning.
